In the Sale Rooms PETER'S PAINTINGS BREAK RECORDS AT AUCTION
An Irish record was set recently when an oil painting, 'Start of a Bumper' by Peter Curling was sold for €45,000 (€53,000 with buyers commission) at an auction of Important Irish Art at Adams salerooms. The
painting, which was painted in 1987 had an estimate of €15-20,000
but there was very strong interest in the piece and it eventually changed
hands for a record price, the previous highest price being paid for a
painting of the Grand Canal in Venice (€26,000).
Following his two recent Exhibitions the demand for Peter Curling's work has continued to grow. Recent auction prices have been consistently strong. In November an early watercolour fetched €15,000 and a record was set last spring when an early oil "Bumper horses going to post" made €23,000.
That did not last for long as in the Irish sale in Christies, London,a painting depicting an Irish horse sale "Pick of the Day" fetched STG£35,000 (£41,800) with buyers commission).
At the May sale at Adams in Dublin an oil painting of the Grand Canal in Venice found a buyer at €26,000. These pieces show that there is a strong demand for Peter Curling's work and buyers are recognising his versatility as an artist. Not only are his paintings of horses proving to be as popular as ever but his Venetian paintings and landscapes are very much in demand. |
