From Venice to Tipperary - and pictures of racehorses too

The Irish Times, Saturday, Agust 16, 2003

Peter Curling is best known as an equestrian artist but for the last five years, he has been having a love affair with Venice, visiting the city regularly to paint its canals and ancient buildings, its public spaces and vast water ways with play of light on water a constant theme.

The result is a collection of paintings, watercolours and drawings that go on show in London next month as part of a major exhibition and sale at The Gallery in Cork Street. The show, which is being sponsored by Anglo Irish Bank, will be divided into three sections: Venice, Mainly Tipperary and The Turf.

The latter group includes typical Curling scenes of racehorses training, jumping, riding out and at full gallop with some delightfully sunny studies of Royal Ascot.

Among the landscapes are some charming views of the Tipperary countryside, but more striking and unexpected is a view over the City of London to St Pauls from a rooftop in Shoe Lane. A must for Curling fans, the exhibition, which opens on September 23rd, can be viewed on the artist's own website www.petercurling.com.
