Peter has developed a variety of themes and as this exhibition shows he gets inspiration in many different places. He has always painted landscapes and has plenty of subject matter on his doorstep. He has made several trips to Venice and like countless artists is fascinated by the light and architecture of that unique city. Last year the colour and drama of the bullring proved to be a plentiful source of inspiration.Still life and interiors are subjects he is happy to tackle but above all it is the movement ,action, and colour of horses at home and on the racecourse which has been his main focus . From his home in Tipperary where his son Sam is now running a busy training yard to the point to points and local racetracks horses are very much part of every day life. This is reflected in the work on show here.
Peter Curling has never got too involved in the world of horse portraiture. He has stayed away from commissions and prefers to see his subjects in their working and natural surroundings. For him it is the atmosphere of the early morning on the heath or horses closely grouped with the mud flying in a schooling race or a point to point which provide the excitement and movement which is his inspiration. These paintings and drawings are an insight into this world. |

Peter is working for an exhibition in London at the Sladmore Gallery in Bruton Place. The Sladmore has primarily been a Gallery specialising in animal sculpture but Edward Horswell and Gery Farrell who run the gallery are keen to diversify and put on exhibitons of paintings by artists with a feel for animals and landscape. Peter is looking forward to the exhibition and wants to include lanscapes and protraits as well as some 3exciting new work with horses as the main theme. |

A year after his successful London exhibition, Peter was offered the exciting prospect of an exhibition in Dublin, at 82 Merrion Square, the former home of the poet W.B. Yeats. This beautiful and historic house was a superb backdrop for Peter's paintings. Horses and landscapes dominated the show and again this exhibition was very well received (see press reviews). The large airy rooms lent themselves to the bigger paintings Peter had produced and once more the artist showed his enthusiasm for a number of different mediums with charcoal , crayon, watercolour and mixed media complimenting the oil paintings on view. This
was the first one man show that Peter Curling had held in London since
1987. Peter wanted to show a variety of work and with the large space
offered by The Gallery he was able to put together a collection of 120
pieces. These varied from large atmospheric oils of horses at home and
on the racecourse to hunting scenes, Tipperary landscapes, studies made
in London and Gloucestershire and a large number of pieces, both oil and
watercolour from his time spent in Venice. The response to the show was
very positive (see press reviews) and all the work found new homes.
